Band night last night was a good change. A chance to be creative and remove myself from the toils and burdens of the world. Jeff brought his magic brew and we all shared some laughs and hopefully got a few good tunes out of the evening. There is nothing like band night. When I think about it – band night is like a night out with the boys sharing jokes and beer and playing music. It is creative, warm and creatively satisfying all mixed into one evening. I am sure that some would frown on three men over fifty acting like they are rock stars. Its not about that. At least for me it is a chance to bring the words that I create to life. Backed by two like minded friends the objective is expression. There are no illusions, no glances that this might takes us anywhere but in the basement on a Friday night. Its enough for me to bring life to the words on the paper and surround them with drum and guitar. Although last night watching Jeff as he was transfixed playing bass was worth the price of admission. We have been playing together for a long time and last night was like watching him play the bass with an out of body energy. It was amazing. A funny part of the night was Steve disappearing for a few bars while we were playing No Cure. He initiated doing the song and half way through he vanished for a few bars then came back. It was quite funny.

That was before I heard the music from the jam. The music Jeff has posted only amplifies my feelings. The version of Blues for America was the best to date. Really amazing – thank you both, my Belvedere Brothers

Great Jam fellers. I’ve grown rather fond of Esther & Phyllis. Corky’s guitar work on this tune is completely outstanding !! When Corky plays he can play, but to get that level out of Corky there are just some stanzas of the musical score that Corky needs to sit out to regain his energies… like those famous 4 bars in Blues4US!!
Finally to the magical voice of Senor Pudding, wonderful melodic elocution as always, but I think the lyrical gods demand a follow up song explaining how Phyllis lost her teeth. Was it a slip in the tub? (every tub needs those sandpaper decals)… or perhaps an unwary fork swing in the hay fields of Nebraska? (Me thinks it may have been not too far from Omaha?) …or maybe a the table leg gave way under the pressure of exceeded load tolerances (of course at JoeBeef’s saloon) and you both went crashing to the floor with limbs still entangeled? (“Ouch!”) We really need to know!
